I see every message once (in safari, macos)
Aaron Weintraub - 2025-05-12 14:29:11
I only see messages in this discussion chat once
Tayfun Ozaltin - 2025-05-12 14:29:51
I see once only (Chrome, Windows)
Shane Kerr - 2025-05-12 14:43:14
Are there 3 e-mail providers? I thought there were only 2...
Greg Choules - 2025-05-12 14:43:16
Maria's talk made me think of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDM8fXhRdWs SFW but don't play it now!
Gert Doering - 2025-05-12 14:52:43
it's a certain generation of people that value green-painted concrete instead of "proper gardens with actual plants"... we have neighbours like that
Shane Kerr - 2025-05-12 14:55:35
In principle a diverse humanscape can include both green-painted concrete AND "proper gardens with actual plants", right?
รric Vyncke - 2025-05-12 14:58:04
At least Maria's email is not from a big concentrated email provider ;-)
Gert Doering - 2025-05-12 14:58:22
@shane as long as they don't mow over my plants... ;-)
Marcus Gerdon - 2025-05-12 14:58:32

In nature there are some fundamental principles. You could call them rules. The environment thrives /regenerates / survives based on those fundamentals. I expect there is a set of fundamental principles for the internet. What are those fundamentals that enable the Internet?
Michael Richardson - 2025-05-12 15:12:55
permissionless innovation, end to end principal (NAT44 breaks this), no filtering that the end user does not control.
Shane Kerr - 2025-05-12 15:18:14
You still don't need permission to innovate! Just a credit card to open your AWS account... ๐
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:18:16
What is (if any) obligatory Internet censorship in NL?
รric Vyncke - 2025-05-12 15:19:26
rt.com ?
Marcus Gerdon - 2025-05-12 15:20:01
The ones I cam across were typical court-/goverment-ordered DNS filters and LI.
Shane Kerr - 2025-05-12 15:22:39
IIRC there was only 1 DNS-based filter in the Netherlands (for the Pirate Bay), and that was struck down by a court. Has that chnaged?
Marcus Gerdon - 2025-05-12 15:24:53
I dont know about actual uses, only remeber when working on a cross-country network having to account for country-specific DNS filters.
Aaron Weintraub - 2025-05-12 15:25:03
I wonder how the monthly for this ISP matches up to a more "regular" commercial type of offering
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:26:16
Also very interesting how they are gain customers? How advertise and how?
This is a question for speaker, if possible
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:26:32
How advertise and where
Gert Doering - 2025-05-12 15:26:33
Max: put that into the Q&A box
Shane Kerr - 2025-05-12 15:26:35
At my home the Freedom Internet offering is expensive, definitely. Like โฌ30 a month more than my current provider, and I couldn't justify โฌ360 a year to switch. ๐๐คข
Aaron Weintraub - 2025-05-12 15:28:05
It always ends up being a race to the bottom. People say they want X Y Z but then almost always price wins out. It's interesting here they've put in fail safes to prevent pure commercialization
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:29:16
I want to start some similar in Spain
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:30:42
So in fact they sell user experience and support, correct?
Marcus Gerdon - 2025-05-12 15:33:12
@Max: As I understand it L1/L2 is bought in, Internet is created by Freedom.
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:35:11
Internet is definitely not created by Freedom ;) And for customers it is the least valuable thing really
Max Tulyev - 2025-05-12 15:37:08
Well, his answer means people just proactively looking for the alternative of the monopoly... right?
