routing loops aside, the provider router (R1) should really deploy BCP38 source address validation... which will have the nice side effect of breaking routing looks as well

extension headers gave me a major headache when dealing with XDP. I guess I could strip them with XDP though

Is the group that found the ICMP loops in v6 the same group that works on IPv6 hit-lists?

I don't have a good overview who does work on v6 hitlists these days. But in the past it was done by a group from TU Munich and a follow up from MPI-Inf.
